Title:
Kenneth Dole to Bob
Date:
1945-07-22
Description:
To: Bob 1945_7_22 From: Kenney [5 page letter] Date: 7-22-1945 [Eagle Insignia United States Army] July-22-45 =Phillipines= [sic] Dear Bob: I do hope that you will forgive me for not writting [sic] as I promised, but I know you understand all of the difficulties one runs into when you are moving around all of the time, I have finally settled down at least long enough to do what I have been wanting to do for sometime and that is to drop you a few lines so here goes for the news from this side of the world. As far as news there is very little and what I do know censorship will not permit me to write, and you understand that also, I know as you know I am in the Q.M. and I think you know they call the Q.M. boys the base Commandoes, and I really can’t say I like it [Eagle Insignia United States Army] -Page-2- too well, and I don’t blame the boys in the inf. as I know what they go through, so I can understand their feelings against us, but as I look at it, it isn’t my fault, and I would take the inf. if I could, so I too could call myself a soldier, this probably sounds foolish to you, and if you were here you would probably beat some common sense into me, but I can’t help feeling that I am not doing my part, this isn’t an old patriotic song that makes me feel this way, I guess it must be my Conscious [sic]. I guess that about sums up the way I feel so I will get along with this letter. It really makes it difficult for me to write, knowing that you are where you are and [Eagle Insignia United States Army] =Page 3= Just how you are feeling and getting along and also I know it must really be tough on the Folk’s if only I could get home I know I could get you back on your feet in a jiffy; but lets not hope for the impossible to happen and as face the first as they are. I worry about you day and night not knowing how you are and I am helpless, so it is up to you Bob to get back on your feet, so you can get back home to the swellest parents in the world, and the best home anyone could ask for. As for you and the Army are conserned [sic]. I doubt if they will let you stay in, and for god’s sake don’t stay if they will let you out. I know as well as you that you have done more than [Eagle Insignia United States Army] =Page 4= your part, and you can do more good at home than anywhere in the world, so take your little brother’s advice just for once and take that little sheet of paper we are all waiting to see. Well Bob I do hope that you are feeling OK. when this reaches you and you are well enough to go [back] home for a few days, as I know it would do you more good to have mom [sic] fix you some good home cooked food & as I remember your favorite and mine was fried liver so be sure to eat some for me. Please don’t worry about me as I am just fine, and as for the japs they as are as far from here as you are. [Eagle Insignia United States Army] =Page 5= You probably would like to know what I am doing. I am a motor sgt. and I have a motor fool, and that is all there is to say; as you know from this just what I am doing every day. Well Bob please keep your chin up for my sake, and before you know it I will also be home and we can be together again, so until then, I will leave everything to you. Please give my regards to all and I promise I will drop you a line tomorrow if I don’t do anything else, so long for now. Kenney
