To: Folks 1943_10_9 From: Kenney [3 page letter] Date: 10-9-1943 [Camp Barkeley Logo] 10-9-43 Dear folk’s: Well I know I owe you a letter as I haven’t had much time to write this week. Last night we had the party I told you about, I got K.P. yesterday and all I did was eat fried chicken & coke, we really fixed the mess hall up nice, we even had table clothes [sic], we served the boys beer, cake, chicken, p. salad, cigars, cigarettes, gum, candy, peanuts, apples, oranges. I really had a swell day even though I had K.P.. Last Monday we “OVER” 2 had the infiltration course, it was really fun I thought, but is sure gives you a chill to hear the bullets flying over you. Melvin left Tuesday I don’t know where he is yet but I should hear soon they called him out for tec. school, he thought he was going to Denver Colorado but he didn’t know for sure. I hope he gets in a nice place it will probably be a hospital he will be there for 12 week’s [sic] and from there I don’t know what they will do. Next week will be a tough one as we are going on a 25 mile hike, but this is about the only thing we will have to do, I have 40 days of basic left if they don’t add any more & I don’t think they will. Page 3 I received those pictures of the kids, you sent they were really good it look’s [sic] like Harland is really growing. I must drop Mildred a line as I owe her a letter. Well this is about all I have to say for now. I will try to write more often. Love Kenney
