Description:
To: Bob 1947_4_30 From: Mom [3 page letter] Date: 4-30-1947 Russell Kansas 4-30-47- Dear Bob:- I’ve been trying to write ever since Sunday, it’s a busy times here as usual. We sure do miss having you call home, but seems this strike will never end. Dad went to a Freeman’s meeting tonite [sic]. They had a Dutch Lunch [sic]. Kenney is somewhere with Dottie, by the way Dottie has been wearing a new ring since Monday, at least that’s the first I’d seen it. it [sic] is a very pretty ring. Dottie doesn’t seem to know when they’ll be married. I do hope Kenney gets interested in a regular job before he does. We had quite a bridge session again the other nite [sic]- Ruth called again tonite [sic] but Dad just got home & I think it mite [sic] be a little late, she said Chet was helping Marcia make my baskets. My flowers have been real pretty so far. I cut Pete a big bouquet of Jonquils. I had over fifty blooming at one time & tulips & pansies are really getting pretty. I’ve s/sent [sic] a lot of time in the garage Garden [sic] this past week still have all my gladiolas to plant. [Page 2] Jake has the forms laid for the Foundation for the extension on the Garage & Bob is going to fix it. I will certainly be glad to be able to put the car in the Garage [sic]. Bud’s mother is much better at this time but still has one more cancer to be removed. you [sic] have no doubt read of Mr. Landons [sic] death, it was so sudden, surely was too bad. Gloria & Larry are busy in the yard planting garden-grass, trees etc. I guess that’s about all all that happening now days. Rev Jenkins said some very nice things regarding you in his sermon Sunday & mentioned your name in a short prayer for you I thot [sic] it awfully nice of him. I was there & knew everyone knew who he meant. For several mentioned it to me, however I knew immediately as he referred to a letter he’d received from you. I hope you have some good news from your Drs. you are to see tomorrow. I’ll be thinking of you too, anyway I hope you get home soon. Angie’s expecting you to stop to see her when you go thru Kansas City, she came down to eat with us twice while in K.C. we saw this captain, who knew you, you may have seen him by now. I don’t remember his name. Bob is going to make you Battle Jacket. I guess it will be alrite [sic] just like the one you got in Salina. Dad bought me a new eversharp pencil it writes nice if only I could write, guess I’ll have to take a short course in Penmanship-. We would like to have a fireplace built, but we can’t get the parts I’m going to write & try & get some things I need somewhere. The grates & oven [Page 3] are hardest to get. Linda was over the other Nite [sic], such a sweet little girls, always laughing almost a year old. Well Bob let me know what I can get for you. Bankers never did get another as shipment of those jackets I saw some beautiful loafer jackets in Wolf Bros. K.C. of really fine wool, for summer wear maybe you’d like these, we can get lots of [frays] now strawberries so better come home for all the fried chicken you can eat- why not have Kenney help you drive back it wouldn’t be such a long drive if or at least it wouldn’t seem so far Chets [sic] anxious for you to come back. Chet & Ruth are going to K.C. week after this & want us to go along but we were just down so shouldn’t really go again. Hope this notes finds you feeling swell Let [sic] me know what I mite [sic] send you Love Mom.
