Title:
Kenneth Dole to Folks
Date:
1945-08-26
Description:
To: Folks 1945_8_26 From: Kenney [4 page letter] Date: 8-26-1945 Phillipines [sic]-8-26-45 Dear Folk’s: Haven’t been doing so well on my writing and I know there isn’t any reason for it, except that I have been vey [sic] busy believe it or not, as you know there is still plenty of work over here to be done now that the war is over (even though I still can’t believe it) and as far as I am concerned I am going to be one of the lucky boys who will probably get to stay over here in this god forsaken country as an A.M.G. (allied [sic] Military Gov.) however I am only guessing as I really don’t know whether I will have to go to Japan or not, I can truthfully tell you that I don’t want any part of it, all I want is to get back home and stay there, as for what I plan to do when I do get home I cannot say as I really haven’t given it too much thought. I keep thinking that someway I would like to get into the oil business as I think I would really enjoy working in this type of work. =Page-2= If you see Don Russell let him know that I would like to go to work for Kaw, that is if he is still around I really don’t know him personally but I know he knows Larry & Bob very well, if I don’t go into the oil business I can’t think of just what I would like to do, if they don’t start sending these boys home who have 40 mo. on this side pretty soon I won’t need to worry about what I plan to do for quite sometime, all the boys are plenty discusted [sic] the way the big shots are parading around over here and back home too, and we cannot be blamed if we feel as though we are getting a raw deal, it looks as though they are only worried about the boys in the Eurpe European theatre, or I am receiving the home paper and I see boys coming home for a 45 day rest after 4 mo. in Europe, probably spent all of it in some large city, I guess I should kick myself for feeling this way “Page 3” but I am speaking for every boy on this side, it is really hard to explain but actually it is a crime, one of the boys in my tent got a letter from his mother and she said, “why don’t you want to come home, don’t you love your family any more” and two days later the poor buddie of mine blew his top, he was and only has 41 mo. over here, and there are a lot more over here who I woud [sic] say will blow their tops if someone doesn’t do something and start them on there way home, please don’t worry about me as I am not the type to blow my top and I don’t have any reason too as I only have 18 mo. over here but I know that I cannot expect to go home until the boys with more time go first, and we all agree on one thing it is up to all of the parents and friend [sic] of us to do something back there to demand that we get home and soon before we all wind [sic] up in a cycle word [sic] every man In my tent is writing a letter =Page 4= tonight with the same thought and feeling that I am, as we want all of you to do what you can to get something started back there so these big shots over here will realize that the war is over and stop bucking, for that other bar or star, I hope the censor reads this as he will probably tear it up and let me hear about it but you probably know from reading this letter that I just don’t care any more about anything except going home to the family and my friends that mean everything in this world to me. Please don’t hold it against me for expressing my most truthful feelings in this letter, and I do hope you will understand the situation over here a little better. Love Kenney
