Dear Bob:
Sunday passed without me writing you son but it was quite a day. N.J. & I went to church in the morning & Daddy & I went to the memorial service for Lee Bachor they have always traded with Daddy & in the evening, Daddy & I went to the show & then to Dawson’s to play Rummy for a while. Pat & Wendal were there, & we played several games- I think we all won & lost a little. Norma Jeanne went to Graffs for a birthday party the her mother gave for her- after dinner Mr [sic] & Mrs. Graff took them all to the show- N.J. took her I.Q, [sic] test today from Jimmie, she’s determined to take up this work, so I guess she’ll have to try it, it takes eight weeks to take the course so she can be an operator, Jimmie came back this morning & passed so he doesn’t have long for civilian life now I sure hate to have them leave but that’s war- Jake came in & Della to see & study fire-place plans [sic], John’s sure having a time studying over those stove [sic]- I’m afraid he’s about to five it up- as we’re having a terrible plan time getting material. anyway [sic] we’ll probably figure out something. I sent you a box of home made chocolate peanut cluster- it was made in K.C. it was really good hope you get it soon- I bought five lbs. & sent it all so I hope your not disappointed when you get it as it is all candy. I’ll send you another box soon with something else. I sent a box of cookies last week- I only hope you get your chance to spend two weeks in Rome- but I don’t like the news today regarding the 5th army that is theyre [sic] doing alrite [sic], but I hope your not in that terrible battle over there today. I’ve been terribly concerned & worried but I don’t think that will do any good, we must just trust in God & Pray you’ll come thru [sic] all this terrible thing some how- but I hate to think your even over there & have to go thru this terrible war but it seems were so helpless in doing anything-----about it, but surely it can’t last much longer---- or at least it doesn’t sound like it according
[2]
To today’s news- Kelly & Juanita Baxter are having a dance tomorrow nite [sic] but I don’t if we go [sic]. I’m afraid I wouldn’t enjoy myself knowing you are some where over there & really not knowing for sure- Well, Jake & Della finally departed-& we don’t know much more. Heard our New President on the air for the 1st time. I don’t think he intends to change the Program any & I think he will do alrite[sic]- at least I’m sure he’ll try only those Naizes[sic] give up- it won’t take long for Japan, in fact I think Japan is nearer being defeated now or as near- it seems that in [sic] must be a flaming torch now- but we lost eleven B29w & Brownie is at Guam but there were a large number participating in the raid as it may not be too bad considering Jimmie & Bessie were coming over to play cards for a while as soon as they got J.L to bed. But they haven’t arrived as yet- N.J.’s busy getting her clothes ready her two months of school. Larry Roy won’t go to bed at nite [sic] with out Norma Jeannes [sic] picture. Gloria says it sets at the foot of the bed & every nite he goes to bed he asks for N.J. & says it so plain by now you should have received the letter & Glorias [sic] included si you’ll know quite a lot about him he must be quite a boy & really must be growing. Wish I could think of something different to send you- I do have a long letter from Eugene- he was on leave when he wrote the letter- Bob Jeanne is in a Hospital with his old trouble as near as we know now- he’s afraid they mite [sic] ground him for good- but it would be better than trying to do something if his physical condition doesn’t permit him too. Well Bob I’d better leave Daddy mail this letter & I hope it finds you well & O.K. I’ll try & get some more news to you & hope you’ve had some mail from home & boxes- Be Careful son – if that’s possible. Thinking & Praying for you always-Love. Mom-
