Description:
To: Folks 1943_8_17 From: Kenney [3 page letter] Date: 8-17-1943 8-17-43. Dear folk’s, Well I didn’t get around to writting [sic] to you last night as we were late in getting through with our work today we took an eight mile hike, the only thing that gives me any trouble on the hikes are my feet and they just about burn up. They have cut down on our hikes a lot until it cools off here, and if they continue I hope it stays hot. Today we had one of the most beautiful ceremonies that I have ever seen w The whole Regiment had a full Dress parade. Dad knows what it is. The Band played all of our old school songs and I felt just like I did before a 2 football game at home, it was really beautiful, but the dust & dirt was really bad, it was fairly cool here today, as it was cloudy. I got a card from V. John & Grandma. They are at Dunkirk N.Y., They didn’t have much to say, on the card but I guess they are having a swell time. I am going to write Grandpa again as soon as I can. You said something about Larry coming over to see Bob & I, when is he coming? I guess Norma will be home soon, according to what Donna told me, I guess she is getting homesick. We are going to go on another hike tomorrow so I had better close for now and get some sleep. – OVER – I haven’t been able to go to town as yet but I am going soon so I can get my picture taken, it is 13 miles to Abilene Texas. Love, Kenney
