Dear Folks:
Well we just got through with our personal G.I. inspection, boy was I nervous. Dad knows what a G.I. inspection is. I made it O.K. also this morning we took a Military Courtesy test there was [space indication with about written above] 300 men in my company only five got a perfect paper, and was I ever proud of myself when the sergeant of my platoon told me I was one of the five, if I keep on working and studying like I have been I will really like it a lot better, so I will try my best to keep up the good work that I have started we still

have 21 exams left. I sure hope I can make a good grade on them [scratched out word?] ask Dad if he still knows how to pack a full field pack, I had a little trouble the first time I tried it. I like it here better every day and the classes we have are pretty tough you get sleepy because it is so hot but I like the classes so well that I have not gone to sleep as yet, they really give us a lot of things to remember we have classes every day, and a five minute break between the hours, the time runs from 1:00 to 24:00 it really is funny getting up at 18:00 which means

by your time 6:00 you have to keep on your toes and not miss anything, if they catch you sleeping in class you get extra duty and I hope I don’t get any.
I got another letter last night with my postal-check in it. thank’s a lot, as yet my package hasn’t arrived, tomorrow is our only day of rest it is Sunday and I have 17 hours of R.P. duty, so I won’t be able to do my washing till later next week. We took a six mile hike yesterday, and went over the obstacle course I made them both O.K. The only Russell boy who didn’t make the course was Glenn Ward

And he fell in a pond of water, they had ropes to swing across on and he missed the rope and did he ever get wet, well I must go now, I will write soon. so long tell everyone helo
