To: Bob 1945_5_17 From: Mom [2 page letter] Date: 5-17-1945 Russell Kansas 5-17-45- Dear Bob: I didn’t write last nite [sic] & Daddy wrote nite [sic] before_ I’ve spent most of this week making cookies for your boxes. I make enuff [sic] so I could send Larry Ray some. Bob I wish I knew how you are getting along_ I know of course its hard for you since you can’t write yourself, but I hope & Pray [sic] your getting along O.K. it seems to bad for you to be over there so far away from home, I know your arm must be painfull [sic] & it is tiresome I know to have it in that traction so long, just so it is O.K. when you are thru with it all. there [sic] are so many causualties [sic] now, I guess we can be thankful it wasn’t worse. No doubt your thinking its bad enuff [sic]. of [sic] course we still really don’t know just how it happened or what all. We have so many inquires [sic] as to how it happened- Juanita Baxter was operated on today- she is getting along O.K. Della isn’t doing so well. I really don’t know what she would do if she had a couple of son’s across somewhere, of course I know of course she is worried about Juanita- but of course she is getting along alrite [sic]. Well Bob you mentioned in one letter that you mite be home for your Birthday- p wish you’d hurry- I’ll still keep boxes going your way & if you leave see that some boy has the privilege of getting them. Kenney doesn’t seem to be very lucky getting his boxes lately- I’ve sent you both so many I’ve no idea just what mite [sic] have been in those six boxes you did receive- Kenney had received news about your accident he seemed to think you’d soon be home. I’m sending you the news & Record again- by 1st class mail- I do –hope you get them sooner__ I had or rather Daddy had a letter from Ernie Reisey today- [2] thanking us for a box I sent him- also Chet wrote & thanked us- also I sent Bud Smith a box, but I don’t know if he ever did get it. I should write him, but there’s [sic] as many things I don’t get done. Ernie asked about you- Bob & Kenney of course. I’ll send his letter & you can send it on to Kenney. I transplanted asters all day & pulled weeds- washed & I’m trying to get started at house cleaning, but seems I can’t accomplish much. the [sic] weather has been terrible, rainy & cold- still hope to have a little fire- Well the seventh Bond drive is on- Daddy bought a 200000 about a week ago_& he says he’s going to buy a 100000 this time_ he’s said he intended to have enuff [sic] to by [sic] a new car after the war- I think including L. Ray, yours, Ken’s & all- we have__ 4,25000 worth & if he buys another 100000 we should be able to buy some kind of car just so you boys get home. that’s most important now. By now you should be getting our mail now- We had a graduation announcement [sic] from Earl Geshm, Larry C. & we probably will have on from Bernard Marshall. Bernard reports to the Navy as soon as school is out & so does- Larry C. Well son, I do hope your are feeling better & don’t worry about us as we are all O.K. N.J. is wanting us to meet her in K.C. over the weekend, but don’t know just what we’ll do- Jimmie & Bessie will join us there too if we do, but I’m not sure as to what Daddy will do- if only we can hear your O.K. we mite [sic]- I know of course we heard but- I’d like to know again of course. I have all my cookies packed & I’ll get them mailed tomorrow- also Daddy has some Dentyne Gum- Also some more fruit cocktail- My can coffee is here so I should be able to send something to you soon in tin cans-We’ll again I’ll say Goodnite [sic] & Good Luck. Love Mom-
