Title:
Kenneth Dole to Folks
Date:
1945-04-21
Description:
To: Folks 1945_4_21 From: Kenney [5 page letter] Date: 4-21-1945 Hq. Co. Base=S A.P.O. “718” April 21-45 Dear Folk’s: Well I have been telling you for quite sometime about my being on orders and expecting to leave, well I am not on mu way as yet but I will send you my new address, as I hope to be there by the time this short note reaches you. I don’t know exactly where I am going- But have a good idea and I doubt if it is where I told you I wanted to go- but a place at least close to some type of civilization probably in the Phillipines -Page 2- I haven’t been working for sometime but I have really been busy the last 3 days getting ready to pull out. It is quite a thrill not knowing as to where you will go and what you will run into, but please don’t worry. Haven’t received a package since the Horse-shoes, but would like to get one or two before we leave as on the boat ride isn’t too hot on meals “e-rations” and only two times a day at that and some of that cheese would really so good, also some saradines [sic], olives, ham, kcatsup, mustard, and more olives these things are really a treat.never thout [sic] of olives before, but some –cont- Page-3 of the boys get them and I had almost forgotten what they tasted or even looked like, so if you have any points send more some coffee, but don’t run yourself short as we get all the G.I. Coffee we want “chickery” [sic] (coffee) T-shirts & white wool socks, would always be appreciated-. I have been wearing there G.I. clod hoppers (shoes) for 2 years and I was wondering how it would feel to wear a pair of real shoes, if Bob or I have an old pair around I would get a kick out of wearing them around the tent and area- one more thing I enjoy that shaving lotion you sent, and I am out could you get me some “old spice” Page-4 Did you ever get the request I sent asking for the subscription the to those magazines I was wondering as you never said. My flowers are growing swell & I hate to leave them behind but the boys will take good care of them I know. I got my first Russell News for almost 9 months except the over you sent to me in packages. I suppose my change of address will mix up everything for me, again but they say it won’t as APO 718 it will go straight from Frisco [sic] to Base s, so let’s hope they are right for a change. Page-5 [large section destroyed] Haven’t heard from Bob for sometime so please let me know all you hear from him & I do hope he is getting a break. Haven [sic] heard from Sis & Larry for quite sometime but it’s all my fault I know as I owe then [sic] a letter, will try to drop them a line before I move, Please send me Dean Krug’s [sic] address and any one else that you know of around here. Well I will close this [letter missing due to tear] letter & get some sleep [tear] next letter don’t worry & please don’t forget to use my new address =OVER= [Back of page 5] Sgt. Kenneth D.
