Title:
Bina Dole to Doran
Date:
1943-10-29
Description:
To: Doran 1943_10_29 From: Bina [5 page letter] Date: 10-29-1943 10-29-43- Dear Doran:- I imagine by now you should have heard from me & know where I am. In fact I thot [sic] I’d hear today: as I wrote Sun. Eve. & also Monday: N. J. & I washed today, & it rained, they say it never rains in Mexico but I’m sure it poured today the climate is beautiful here – a lot like it was in Colorado, pour rain one minute & sun shine the next everything is quite convenient here except a little crowded. We brought Gloria & Baby home yesterday at noon. Gloria feels pretty good, the baby weighed 4lbs 10 ¾ oz when we brought him home lost a little he’s as cute as he can be but tiny & still he’s a long Baby – just real thin – but- he’s really alrite [sic] in every way – I’m real pleased to see how purt [sic] he really was, yesterday he seemed to realize he’d come home & eat real well. Dr. wants Gloria to feed him every two hours so he’ll fill out - & its really quite a chore & the worst of all Gloria never hears him – so he’s going to be Larry’s problem – when he’s here & I’m sure I don’t know what Gloria will do when N.J. comes home-. I guess Gloria had quite a time in fact some of the neighbors have told me they were near calling me a time or two & if the Baby hadn’t arrived when it did the Dr. was going to take it anyway to save Gloria as some kind of poison had set in & he, the Dr. was really glad when it did arrive & on top of every thing else the Baby was completely upside down, & usually a Baby never lives in this case, so I’m really glad everything is as well as supp they are –even Mr. Dowdle told me this evening he was really worried about Gloria a week ago last Wednesday she couldn’t even wear her ring & her ankles were straight up & down – I’ve heard of this & in most cases they live around twenty-hours. I guess its just as well I didn’t know since everything turned out O.K.. I’ve been taking care of the Baby as Gloria hasn’t been able to as yet – she tried to feed the Baby last nite & nearly fainted so I took care of him & if you think it doesn’t make you nervous to bath him as tiny as he is you just don’t know. He is really a case & I do worry about Gloria taking care of him not being able to hear but I guess they’ll make out somehow. I do wish you could see the Baby. He looks around like he knew all of us & eats like a pig so I think he’s doing alrite [sic] tho [sic]. We’re going to send some pictures of him as soon as they are developed, also weigh him as soon as we get some scales. Larry is surely thin- he’s down to 172 lbs & really look like he’d lost more than that. Bob weighs 191- Kenney 168-. I also took a few pictures of the Baby they should be ready tonite but their’s no one here to go after them, so I’ll send them later. Gloria has received so many pretty gifts for Larry Jr. & of course intends to write & thank all of them – tell Della her gift arrived today & Gloria was really tickled with it. We’ll soon be sending them all some snaps. Where are you eating? I got my ration Books down here – N.J. got them today & she’s to get Larry Jr’s tomorrow- Gloria wants you to come & see the Baby., I wish I could bring them home until he is at least two mos.[sci] old by that time he wouldn’t be so hard to manadge [sic] - Larry always swoops down over the house when he starts flying – he goes on two missions one hour each. I usually spend all day helping Gloria, I don’t know how he does it but he does somehow – today he run all of his pants thru the Mangel. This Mr. Dowdle has sure been grand to the kids & also everyone else – of all the flower’s, company also – Mr. Sidey gave the Baby ten dollars for a Bond. I’ve surely met a lot of people & I guess Larry was the one who was glad to see me as he was so worried about Gloria taking care of Larry Ray – he was sure tickled about the way you had the bassinette fixed & over the way it was fixed up after we got it out of the crate everything came threw [sic] alrite[sic]. He was nervous as a cat the day we brought the baby home, guess I was too but I feel much better about him now & if he does as well the next few days as he has the first two days at home I’m sure he’ll be alrite [sic]. I sent Bob a box today & will fix Kenny one Sunday. I’m so tired tonite I doubt if I even write any more tonite. Well I must drop the Boys a card & you write them too. I’m sure you have time & you have no one to fix bottles for every two hours so you should get lots of sleep- Well write & let me know what you hear from the boys & how everything is there– Love Binan – Larry says someone sent some of the kids a case of eggs from Minnesota so we were wondering how about you sending them some – eggs are 65cts here.
