To: Folks 1943_9_7 From: Kenney [4 page letter] Date: 9-7-1943 [Camp Barkeley heading] 9-7-43 Dear folk’s, Well we have a whole night to ourselves so I am taking this opportunity of writing to you. I have received your packages & the money Dad sent me but I haven’t even had time enough to write & thank you for them, but I want to do that now, thank’s a lot for everything mom & Dad I don’t know what I would do [“do” is inserted above the line] without your letters & the packages I get & I know Bob feel’s the same way. So don’t ever think they are not appreciated keep it up. over. Page 2 We really had a hike last night we made 8 miles in 1:32 minutes [1 hour and 32 minutes] so you can see how fast we walked, & also a full field pack. Mom the 11th Armored Division moved here to camp last week from Camp Polk Louisana[sic]. Try to find out if anyone was at Camp Polk from Russell & us guys will go look them up. Mr. Houge might know. My watch is still running ok. I got my house shoes from Gladys tonight & I also some lemons. I am going to write her tonight while I have time. Page 3 I got in pretty good with our mess sergeant, he I can go down to the mess at night and if he is there I get coffee or cookies the other night I ate watermelon. I got a letter from sis Friday and she said that Larry was coming down but he never showed up he must have had to do something else, he may be here next week end. Well I must close for now, as I owe sis & Ethel, Bert, Della & Harold a letter. I will write soon. I got weighed last night I weighed 168 and when I left home I weighed 165 and I can part my hair now – no kidding.
