Kenneth Dole to Mom and Dad and Sis
To: Mom & Dad-Sis 1944_10_6 From: Kenney [3 page letter] Date: 10-6-1944 Oct. 6-44 New Guiena Dear Mom & Dad-Sis: Here goes for a few more short lines from here, not any news, but just thought I ought to write and say hello. I received another package, cookies and this stationary. I won’t be able to use the enveloped as I cannot get the stamps however I [water damage] envelopes that are already stamped, and also the cookies if I may make a suggestion, the only ones that I could eat were the ones with nuts and coconut I guess the coconut keeps them from getting dried out, however the others get so dry they were almost like powder, I know how you enjoy sending these kind of things, but I know how much work you do also in [Stamp: Russell Kans Parcel Post DEC 1944] 2 preparing one of these boxes but the cookies and home made candy just don’t keep, so you can do what you think best about this. The things that don’t spoil are thine [sic], have canned cherries, soad, soap, bran oil, gum,, [sic] flashlight batteries, tooth brush, tooth powder, foot powder, cheese, cheese crackers, sox, shorts, T shirts and things of this nature are the only things that will keep, here is a good way to pack the canned stuff, be take a can of cherries for example, get a tin can lage [sic] enough so that the fruit jar will fit inside, wrap newspaper around fruit jar and then put in can, the tin can keeps the jar from being broke, I have seen these in som [sic] other packages, -3- before I forget it I have been hungry for some real Dill Pickles I could eat a dozen right now, also some of those small pickles I think mom [sic] calls them sweet pickles, well anyway I know what they are, You [sic] have asked me if this is anything I want to have let you know, well here are some things that I know will get here in good condition, almost anything that can be sealed, or packed so that this damp air cannot get to it, I could go for some more of those canned cherries they were really delicious I guess I had better close, so long for now, give my regards to all. Love Kenney
