Description:
To: Folk’s 1944_1_31 From: Kenney [4 page letter] Date: 1-31-1944 1-31-44 Dear Folk’s: Well here I am away out here in California and I am about 30 miles from Oakland, so I am hoping I get to see Floyd & Verna, I called them up this morning, and had a nice talk with them but the only thing that stops me from going to see them, and that 1'is we are only allowed two night passes a week and they are only six hours and it takes me at least half of that time to go there and back, so I am going to call them and have them come out and see me (over) [2] and this weekend I will try to get a 36 hour pass and if I can get it I will drop in and see them, I sure hope I get my weekend pass. [scratch out] I guess [scratch out] I am lucky to get sent there at least I will get to see floyd, [sic] but this is another replacement Depot, and I can’t say how long I will be here, maybe 3 days a week or a month I can’t say as I don’t know, I hope that telegraham [sic] I sent you on the train didn’t excite you too much, about my coming through Russell, but we changed our route in Topeka and went north of Russell [sic] Page 2 along the border of Nebraska down through Colorado then Utah & Nevada and to California, Well I saw a lot of this good old U.S.A. in the past two month’s from Texas to Penn. and from Penn. to Calif. and I still think Kansas is the best state and Russell the best town and I always will, I haven’t heard any more about my wrist watch, I hope I get it while I am here as I can give it to Floyd and he can have it fixed up for me [scratch out], as he will know a good place to take it, over [4] well I don’t have a lot to say as thre [sic] isn’t much to say, the weather here is nice and warm, but from Penn to Nevada all I saw was snow, also I saw some deer in Colorado, the guys really razzed me about Kansas, and I don’t blane [sic] them you know what thre [sic] is in North Kansas, nothing we only saw about 3 towns, but they still can’t talk me into not liking Kansas, well I will close for now hoping to hear from you soon. Love Kenney
